PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
This practical and supportive program is intended to:
Women will be provided with practical and emotional support to assist them in becoming stable and independent in their personal living situations by offering life and self advocacy skills relatable to their personal situation.
Support is offered on a one-on-one basis to address specific issues related to an individual woman’s needs and circumstances during the Tuesday drop-in, and through monthly group information sessions that will focus on specific issues and topics that are related to housing and self-advocacy.
THIS PROGRAM IS FOR WOMEN WHO:
a. Women who currently have housing secured or whose housing situation is in jeopardy
b. Women who are having difficulties related to their housing that impacts their ability to maintain their housing
c. Women who have low income
AND WHO NEED PRACTICAL & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ABOUT SUCH THINGS AS:
a. Understanding your rights and responsibilites as a tenant
b. Transitioning into a new living situation
c. Getting prepared for an upcoming move
d. Household and money management
e. Accessing services and supplements through the Ministry of Housing and Social Development.
f. Filling out forms and documents
g. Life skill development, self advocacy, goal setting and choosing healthy lifestyle choices as it relates specifically to maintaining housing
h. Making informed decisions related to your housing or other situations in your life
i. Community resources, or simply needing someone to talk to
For personalized one on one support:
Women can drop-in betweem 1:00 - 3:45pm on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to meet with the Women's Support Worker/Group Facilitor at the Elizabeth Fry office. No referral is needed. See below for more information.
For generalized support in a group setting:
Women can attend the monthly group sessions that will be offered at the Elizabeth Fry office to focus on specific issues and topics. Topics vary monthly and are held once per month on the last Thursday of each month. Space is limited for each group session, so please call or drop in to save your spot and to find out about upcoming topics. More information can be found below.

Let's not fall into that category. We will be having a group session on planning for the upcoming holiday season so that we can reduce the stress that sometimes overshadows to the celebration of the holidays.
We will cover gift making, gift giving, what's available in the community for dinners, hampers, and for children.

Women will have the opportunity to come to network and collaborate with each other, and to share and gather information about the programs and services available to women in the community with the purpose of raisinging awareness about what is available in the community and how women can access appropriate services.
